Many mortgage lenders will consider a professional cricket player as a lending risk. You will need to work with a broker who understands your income and can present your case to the right lender for you.
Like a professional footballer, a professional Cricket player will have a contract with a Club that employs them. The contract length can vary but will have a commencement and termination date. The Cricket Clubs’ approved contract will stipulate the basic income. The contract will also state the basic salary, match fees and any individual and team bonuses a player may receive.
The world of professional Cricket is moving at a rapid pace, with more opportunities available within the UK and abroad as more and more limited over tournaments pop up. If you are lucky enough to be selected to play in any of these tournaments, you will likely be paid in a foreign currency and have a potential tax liability overseas. Some lenders in the UK will not be able to use this income if not declared properly.
